Overview
The West Texas Food Service Cooperative (the Cooperative) is a multi-regional service comprised of school districts, charters, and other governmental entities in ESC Regions 9, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, and 19. The Cooperative operates two components:
1) Food Purchasing (commercial distribution) 2) Commodity Processing (further processing of bulk USDA commodities) Participating members may choose to join one or both components. There is no fee for participation. The primary focus of the Cooperative is to assist participating members in the administration of a fiscally sound food service operation while providing appealing, nutritious meals. Benefits of participation include: Cost savings -through increased purchasing power; -by eliminating or reducing advertising and personnel costs in relation to procurement; Nutritional integrity -by providing the highest quality items at the best possible prices; -assuring consistent quality and follow up support when product issues arise; Regulatory compliance -meeting all federal, state, and local bid laws; -by complying fully with USDA and Texas Department of Agriculture Child Nutrition Program regulations and policies. Currently, the food purchasing component serves 230 member school districts througout the seven-region area. In additon, the commodity processing component services 209 member school districts across the same area of West Texas. The total purchasing power of the Co-op is approximately $40 million annually.
