The Child Nutrition Programs at Education Service Center Region 17 are regulated by the Texas Department of Agriculture and USDA.
The Child Nutrition Program is a service provided to school districts, charters, RCCI's and private schools thoughout the region. It is designed to provide a comprehensive range of technical assistance, training, and resources to assist in meeting program compliance requirements of the National School Lunch Program, School Breakfast Program, Afterschool Care Program, Seamless Summer Option, and Summer Food Service Program as outlined in the United States Department of Agriculture and Texas Department of Agriculture regulations and guidance. The Child Nutrition team provides technical assistance for campus food service and administrative personnel through workshops, training sessions, and direct on-site visits as well as a summer workshop for all food service related responsibilities.

In addition, districts are offered the opportunity to participate in the muli-regional West Texas Food Service Cooperative (WTFSC). The WTFSC operates two components, food purchasing and commodity processing, that assist participating members to administer a fiscally sound food service operation while providing appealing, nutritious meals. | NUTRITION EXPO | ||||||||||||
The ESC17 sponsors an annual Health and Nutrition Expo in December at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center. The Expo will provide educational sessions for students and adults on nutrition, health, and wellness topics. The Civic Center exhibit hall will house numerous booths where vendors will display everything related to commercial foods, commodity processed foods, and equipment related to school food service as well as health and nutrition resources and services available to districts. The Expo provides school districts opportunities to gather information that will further enhance and improve their school food service and wellness programs. | ||||||||||||
